The old Jewish area at the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno

Although the Cemetery of Staglieno is primarily a Catholic cemetery, within its walls there are two Jewish cemeteries, a Protestant section, Orthodox, Moslem, and English military and civilian burial grounds. The small Jewish community of Genoa was devastated during the Holocaust, and very few remain to tend to their ancestors. The Jewish section at the Cemetery of Staglieno, both the old one and the new one, are sites full of greenery and remembrance.  The old Jewish cemetery can be visited (except on Saturdays) also during the tour dedicated to the other areas of the Monumental Cemetery. You can find here the description of the tour at the Staglieno Cemetery.
